Hi everyone!

Well, what do you think? This is the brand spanking new mixedmotionart.com!

As you can imagine, we are thrilled to have our home grow to the point where we can make improvements and positive changes. A whole lot of things have happened that have led us to this point and now is as good a time as any to reflect on where we’ve been and look forward to where we are going.

Mixed Motion Art was developed as a result of bad bosses and the desire to do things better. Both Laura and I were previously employed by a business-first dance studio. In hindsight, I see the reason for doing this as business is business and you have to keep the lights on…right? Well, I am of the opinion that you can still “keep the lights on” while actually having a sense of pride and humanity in what you are doing. One thing is for sure, this is a people business. A “building relationships with people” business and we always think about that first before we enact any changes.

I can distinctly remember all of the great teachers that have influenced me in my life. At no point do any of them ever make me feel like a dollar sign or as another number. Why couldn’t/shouldn’t I/we do the same?

Thing is, I/we can. We can run things in a way which respects our fellow dance teachers in the daily grind of finding students and getting a decent cut of the money you work for. This very thought is the contrary of where we were and the very reason why MMA exists today. Well, that, and the desire to just do what we love to do and have fun doing it! And then of course the whole not wanting to work for anyone thing…

Now that the house has been built, it’s time to grow! More classes and opportunities in an environment where we ourselves would want to take class is the next step. Afterwards, the plan is to move the house to a bigger location to provide even more during the peak hours of the week. This will happen and we can’t wait!

We LOVE 2355 N. Milwaukee. I know it will be bittersweet to move on, but I’ll be happy re-reading this on that day and knowing that we put the thought out there, created an affirmation and made ‘the damn thing’ happen! Now then, my fellow dance and fitness enthusiasts, lets make some goals for ourselves to be better this year than we were last. I know that in 2012, I’ll be the BEST me ever and I can’t wait to have a blast and keep moving FORWARD.

Shall we?
